Women’s Shelters Photography Workshops – 2020

Donation protected
Our mission is to bring the power of creative self-expression through photography to women living in shelters in Montreal – AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

What’s our project?

We believe that everyone deserves to feel self-fulfilled through their own creative projects, regardless of what their personal situations are.

With that in mind, in the last 2 years, we were able to do 3 photography workshops in women’s shelters across Montreal.

 - So a little bit more on ‘Creating in the Moment’, the photography workshop that’s facilitated by Liana Carbone, a local Montreal photographer.

- This is a workshop that was created for virtually anyone, it integrates mindfulness practices that are easy to apply. We also allowed the women to feel seen by capturing their portraits during the workshop!

- The women get to keep a disposable camera for 2 weeks in which they can take everything they’ve learned with them to apply on their own time – in addition to expressing themselves artistically through their pictures!

- We saw how amazing that was for their self-confidence, some of them shared with us that they’ve now picked up a little hobby!

- The cool thing is that the last one we did, we were able to see it through all the way to an exhibition, where they were able to show their work so that they could see their achievements.

- We had a big party, over 60 women from the shelter attended, with a big supper served, an artist performance, and ended with karaoke.

OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE THE WOMEN FEEL THAT THEY ARE INCLUDED, THAT THEY ARE BUILDING COMMUNITY WITH ONE ANOTHER, THAT THEY ARE LEARNING TO BE PRESENT IN THE MOMENT.

How can you help us make an impact?

We looked at how much it would cost us to do 3 workshops, including the expositions in 2020 – and we’ve come up to a cost of about $4,000.

WE’RE REACHING OUT TODAY, BECAUSE WITHOUT YOUR HELP, WE CANNOT MAKE THIS POSSIBLE.

This includes:

- Film cameras because we’ve realized that disposable cameras aren’t so great for the environment.
- Developing and digitizing all of the pictures.
- Printing pictures in large scale to create a real exhibition experience.
- As well as all costs needed to create an impactful event.

If ever you can’t help out with money, reach out to us if you have film cameras to donate (not digital) or if you’d like to volunteer your time to help us out!!

WE HOPE THAT YOU’RE AS EXCITED AS WE ARE TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN IN 2020!!!!

You may remember us from our fundraiser back in 2017! This new fundraiser campaign is an extension of our original project!

Your donations from back then allowed us to evolve our project as we were able to utilize the disposable cameras in the care packages to provide an impactful workshop experience.
