Winters Family Benefit Campaign

On December 16, 2017 Michael and Renee Winters welcomed their new twins; Mavryk and Maklyn to their family.  The twins were born 5 weeks premature and Maklyn was born with Tetraology of Fallot which means she has four abnormalities in the formation of her heart.  The first two weeks of gestation her heart did not form correctly.  This condition was undiagnosed until birth.  Maklyn is preparing for open heart surgery in the very near future.  Maklyn spent 3 weeks in the NICU and was finally able to come home with a feeding tube and oxygen supply.  Without open heart surgery, her prognosis is less than a year. 

Renee and Michael have done everything possible to provide for their little family and ensure Maklyn has the care she needs to survive.  Unfortunately, necessity has caused Renee to use all of her available paid sick leave, including extended leave and FMLA.  In addition, the family has needed to relocate to Columbia, Missouri in order for Macklyn to be close enough to her cardiologists and therapists in both Columbia and St. Louis.  Renee is planning to work closer to their new home; however, insurance expenses are high to keep the children covered. 

Please, help us to support this family who has given so much to the Morgan County R-II School District.  Renee has been a 6th grade social studies teacher, PE teacher and softball coach for the district.  Michael is a 2002 graduate of the Morgan County R-II Schools and a former marine who deployed in Iraq defending our country.  Michael returned to his hometown and works at Gates here in Versailles.
