Winter's Child Life Trip to Laos

I am really excited to share this news with my family and friends although I am going to need some help to make this trip both financially attainable and emotionally successful.
As you are all aware (I'm sure) I am a Certified Child Life Specialist that currently works at the Alberta Children's Hospital. This is my dream job and I love going to work everyday. Child Life Specialists are trained to be child development experts and help children and their families cope with being in the hospital through many different tools and techniques. I recently finished my education at McMaster University where I graduated from their Post Graduate Child Life Diploma Program. My role at the Alberta Children's Hospital is casual, meaning that I do not have guaranteed hours, but get to work in many different areas of the hospital.
A few weeks ago my Child Life manager was approached by a doctor working at a newly opened children’s hospital in Laos looking for help in developing a child development program. Since I only work casually, my manager asked me if I would be interested in this opportunity and I said YES! On January 9th I will be travelling to Luang Prabang to volunteer at the Lao Friends Hospital for Children for 4 weeks! The exact details about my work there are yet to be worked out but as those develop I will update you via my blog: truenorthstrongandplay.wordpress.com.
Since this is a volunteer position, I need your help with my travel expenses! The $3000 that I am asking for will cover the cost of my flight, living expenses (for both in Laos and to cover my rent in YYC while away) and the tools I will need to make the Lao Friends Hospital for Children a more child friendly environment. Any unused dollars will be donated to the Friends Without A Border organization who runs the hospital.
