Winter is Coming to Alt Space

I'm three months in to my Year of Service, where I am volunteering my time to support Detroit grassroots social justice. The focus of my volunteer work (along with serving on two not-for-profit boards and organizing the 2017 Pedagogy and Theater of the Oppressed Conference) is to establish Alt Space , a culture project in just and sustainable living that brings together neighbors, grassroots organizations and allies in the social justice community, providing an incubator space to develop sustainable independent community-controlled resources.
The project has been building since July when the space hosted the Mutual Aid Network Gathering and SUNY Purchase for a project in collaboration with Detroit's Oakland Avenue Artists Coalition and Ghana Think Tank. The Ghana Think Tank will return in March and Alt Space is already gearing up to host guests from both the 2017 Allied Media Conference and the 2017 Pedagogy and Theater of the Oppressed Conference (for which I am lead organizer).
WINTER IS COMING! WHAT'S THIS CAMPAIGN ABOUT?
The $4200 will help cover cost to make it through the Detroit winter, including a) weatherization of the entire house so it can be used through the winter for community gatherings and as solidarity housing; b) flood mitigation to address Detroit's failing sewer infrastructure ; c) the utility bills to keep the house warm and run system when the house is being put to community use and finally; d) cover a portion of the property taxes for the vineyard project GrapeSeedDetroit that is hosted by Alt Space at no charge.
The goal is to raise these funds by Halloween (October 31, 2016). It's already starting to get cold, so time is of the essence. I'll be administering the funds personally and will include updates on how funds are being spent as the work proceeds.
Funds will be used as follows (figures are rounded):
Weatherization: $ 600
Flood Mitigation: $1200
Taxes: $600
Utilities: $1500
GoFundMe Fees & Misc.: $300

Donors who give $100 or more will receive a hand made coaster from wood salvaged from the Alt Space site. This is old growth wood from the structure itself printed with an image of the Alt Space facade.
