Winch for Chelan County SAR

Two weeks ago I found myself in a jam. I was stranded 20 miles up a dirt road above Lake Chelan following a motorcycle accident. My bike had gone down a steep hill just off the side of the road, but I was unable to get it back up the incline. I was fortunate enough to have the ability to contact outside help, and after spending the night on a snowy mountain, the following morning help arrived in the form of Chelan County Sheriff's Department's Search and Rescue Coordinator in his F150. As he broke out tow straps and a come-along to help pull my bike back up the hill I was floored that he didn't even have a winch. We got the bike back up onto the road, I thanked him, and he left. I made it safely back into town and that was that. 

Except it wasn't. For the next few days it bothered me more and more that this Deputy was tasked with SAR and didn't have a winch. Manually pulling vehicles out of this terrain is an awfully difficult task, and one that I think this Deputy shouldn't have to deal with.

I decided to reach out to him to see about getting a winch donated.  After a week his command approved it, and he sent me three models that would make his life easier.

This campaign is here to buy that Sheriff's Deputy a winch for his truck. He does a difficult job that benefits the backpacking, dual sport, and offroading communities along more than 100 miles of the WA Backcountry Discovery Rout, not to mention the hundreds of miles of hiking trails in that area. By doing his job, he is making our sports significantly safer. To top it off, he rides a dual sport.

Let's buy this man a winch.
