White Post Gas Station restoration!

$1,500 of $50,000 goal

Standing at the crossroads of White Post Village since 1928 is a very unique, stucco gas station. It has been an anchor in our community since then, serving as a Sinclair filling station, then a US Post Office, then as a farm storage building. In recent years the old gas station has fallen on hard times, and was in danger of collapsing from neglect. Fortunately, the owners, longtime residents of the community, deeded the property (and a small stable/garage behind it) to the White Post Village Association (WPVA) early in 2017. WPVA is a community association, an authorized 501-c3 non-profit corporation, with local residents as members who share a vision of restoring the old station to its former glory, in its role as the local Sinclair station, approx. mid-1930s era. As a local non-profit with little income other than donations, we are seeking support from automotive enthusiasts, local residents -  anyone who appreciates and supports efforts to repurpose old structures to new life for generations to come to enjoy.  We hope to open the building up for neighborhood gatherings, art displays, a museum about our village  and its role in Colonial US History, and more! The old gas station is a contributing structure to our village being listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Please help us bring the station back to former glory! We appreciate your interest and support. Any amount is welcome.

Stop by White Post village next chance you get, and take a look at the two buildings in their original configuration from the 1930s! Our local demolition man, Mr. Larry Branham of Northern VA Demolition, did an outstanding job of removing the additions, which were deterioration beyond repair. Since the two buildings are directly in the middle of our National Historic District, we had the Clarke County Historical Preservation Commission review the changes, and they gave their blessing. We are currently in process of obtaining estimates from local trades towards the electrical rewiring, stucco rework, carpentry, concrete work, roofing, landscaping, old gas station items, - the list goes on! We are seeking donations of time and money towards the restoration, which one day will become a community showcase and possible meeting place! Friends of Clarke County - the Shenandoah Valley - gas station and old car enthusiasts - please consider donating to our efforts! We are a local non-profit, and will send letters of acknowledgement for your donation. Any amount is welcome.
