Hawaii Adaptive Paddling Association (HAPA) is run entirely by volunteer help, so 100% of your donation goes directly to our program and participants.
Three years ago through your generous donations, we were able to purchase a new trailer and equipment for our program. Now we ask for your assistance again.
We need financial help to finish out our 2018 year and continue into 2019. Donations will go towards the rental of a beach wheelchair each month, purchase of free lunch for our participants, and minimal administrative expenses (post office box rental, renewal of State registration, supplies and insurance).
The Hawai‘i Adaptive Paddling Association is a licensed 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that involves people with physical, mental and emotional disabilities in the sport of Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling. Participants include members from Easter Seals, the CARE program, the Hawai‘i State Hospital, the Exceptional Family Member Program at Kane‘ohe Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i, the Hawai‘i Epilepsy Foundation, as well as challenged individuals who enjoy the benefits of outrigger canoe paddling. We have also provided information and support to adaptive programs in New Zealand, Australia and programs in the United States. We have provided volunteers and support for the Veterans Golden Age Games and for special Wounded Warrior events held in Hawai‘i.
HAPA runs a monthly recreational program that provides a safe, fun day at the beach for participants. Participants are encouraged to learn the basic techniques of paddling; following water activities we provide a free lunch for a day of 'ohana (family).
