Hi I'm Michael Weston (aka Westie) and this campaign is an avenue for ongoing fund raising support for my Food Share & Community Projects. My life is now dedicated to being of service to others as nothing else makes any sense to me.
On the 28.9.15 I started the transformation of the place I rent in Altona Meadows into a place to grow and share as much food as possible out to the community as my contribution to the #FoodIsFree Project which is a world wide project sharing the message that food should be FREE, grown with love & shared with love! I had no idea that this would lead me to a beautiful life filled with such sense of community, purpose & so many avenues to helping those in need. I have met such amazing people that have welcomed me into their lives shared stories, adventures and been served such beautiful home cooked food.
Your support will allow me to not only continue doing what I do but it will also provide the resources needed to further expand this.
So outside of being a urban farmer and crazy night garden what else am I up to?
*I'm out late at night Dumpster Diving for perfectly good food that would otherwise go to landfill and getting that food to families in need around the Western Suburbs (17 so far) along with produce from my garden in the form of hampers delivered off at their doorstep.
*Forming wish lists for these families to support them through this time and gathering donations such as clothing, shoes, toys and whatever else is needed to be delivered with their hampers.
*Heading into the City with general and customized care packs for the growing number of homeless people doing it tough on our streets along with one on one work with certain individuals forming support systems for those stuck in the gap of reintegrating into society and finding there unique calling in life.
*Surprising community members with night garden transformations or items I have foraged that made me think of them.
*Adpoting & rescuing fruit trees that had produce going to waste or where going to be removed (15 so far). These are then maintained and harvested as part of the adoption.
*Collecting Horse Poo, Seaweed, Coffee Grounds and other waste products the garden loves and delivering these around the community at low cost to help pay for fuel to do my foraging & dumpster dives.
*Helping out with community gardening projects.
*Surpring my lovely neighbours by mowing their lawns or transforming & maintaining the garden of a 97 year old trooper called Winifred from across the road and trying not to get caught so she doesn't try to pay me.
And I have upcoming projects on the wishlist such as:
*Adopting nature strips to grow more food for sharing.
*Negotiating for vacant land to be donated to community projects and saving more fruit trees.
*Having a customized Food Share trailer built to further expand the food sharing love.
And many many more ....
I normally don't like to list the things I do because it is not done for the purpose of recognition and I generally like to fly under the radar with what I do but this Lone Ranger is smart enough to know when he needs help and the more I tell you the better chance I have of gaining your support and welcoming you to the Westie's Food Share Team.
