My name is Mone't Smith. My friend Jason and I researched the story in Flint Michigan and together we have decided to raise money to help them receive clean water. Jason lives in VA And I live in New York. All monies will be used to send pallets of water to Triumph Church in Micighan. Here is a little back story on the Crisis. To save money amidst a financial emergency, the state of Michigan decided to temporarily switch flints water source from Lake Huron to flint river as a cost saving measure until a new supply line to Lake Huron was ready. The river was said to be nasty; and in April 2014 after the switch, the residents complained that their water looked, smelled and ta
ste funny. The water was HIGHLY corrosive. The city switched back to Lake Huron in October 2015, but it was too late, the damage to the pipes were already done to the lead pipes. It is now a state of emergency. 57 percent of flints residents are black and 41 percent live beneath the poverty line. Lead poisoning is dangerous to everyone. Problems associated with the water contamination is skin lesions, hair loss, vision loss, depression and anxiety. The effects could be damaging for the future. Lead poisoning affects a child's iq, resulting in learning disabilities. The number of cases of legionaries disease has spiked in Genesse county in two years since the water crisis. From June 2014 to November 2015 at least 87 residents developed legionnaire disease compared to 6 and 13 cases in the 4 preceding years. 10 patients have died: My friend Jason and I are raising money to send water to Flint to help with the water crisis every little bit counts! #Water4Flint
