Kalahari Education Experience 2018-2019

Hi everyone!
Every summer, a group of students from my school go to the Maduo Intermediate School in Kalahari, South Africa for about two weeks to give English lessons to students there. While it’s our summer, this falls during their winter break, and the students choose to come to school in order to improve their English so they can pass their matriculation exams that will allow them to continue their education. It is extremely important that we make the most of these weeks, as during the year their teachers don’t know English—so when we go, we need to provide them with the motivation and tools to continue improving on their own.
Throughout the school year, those of us going on the trip do various fundraisers, raising money to continue adding to their English book library, tables and chairs, as well as a breakfast and hot lunch for every single student, every day we’re there. We have high expectations for ourselves to help these kids as much as we can, and, as much as I wish that helping others was free, it’s not. It will take a lot to do everything we want to do for these kids, and we can only get so much from the school community.
I know that to you, I’m just asking for donations for people on the other side of the world who you have no connection to. You might be skeptical, wondering if we really do have an impact. And while I can’t give you first hand accounts, I have heard from countless friends and other students who have been on this trip before that this trip really does make an impact on everyone involved.
I would be so grateful if you could help me help these kids. Everything counts, no matter how small—enough little bits add up to a big bit, and a big bit changes lives. :)
It’s time for me to take advantage of the privileges life has given me and give back to other people, and I would love it if you would help me.
