Dear all,
The students, Board, Administration and Staff cordially invite you to attend our commencement ceremony as indicated on the invitation below. Our students have worked hard to realize their dream of a high school diploma. Some are the first in their family to graduate from high school!

Geno Jones of Star 99.7 will deliver the keynote address. Theme: "Hold On To Your Dream

Dear “Friend of Greg Mathis”,

Over the past five years we have graduated 98 to 100% of our senior classes and many have gone on to college or employment in a chosen vocation ranging from mortuary science to NASCAR mechanic. These young people had the same thing in common. They were typically 2 years too old for their class and 2 to 3 years or more behind in English Language Arts and Math. Many times their only way of dealing with this was to act out resulting in them being dismissed from CCSD schools. Others became single head of household moms or dads, homeless or in trouble with the law with little parental support.

We have provided a safe haven where they get individualized plans of study and a safe, caring and nurturing environment.  Nourishing meals and snacks are provided as well. Not all students respond to the school’s culture, but those that do realize their dream of high school graduation. Two of our students this year will graduate with dual credit from us and Trident Technical College. No other CCSD or Charter School in Charleston County focuses primarily on providing a second chance to these young people.

Providing this level of instruction and caring is more costly than traditional schools and we have to count on the generosity of our community partners and “Friends of Greg Mathis”. We need to raise $175,000 in additional funding for the 2015-16 school year with the greatest financial need between now and the end of November in order to ensure that we have highly qualified teachers, principal and support staff in place.

I will close with a short story. A long time ago in a cathedral in Europe, an elderly gentleman sat at the seat of his beloved organ playing. He knew that at any moment a young man was going to enter and ask for the key and as he did the old man reluctantly gave him the key. The young man started to play masterfully and the old man turned with tears streaming down his face and thought, what if I hadn’t given the key to the master? You see, this was the introduction to the world of Johann Sebastian Bach!

Please help us give the keys to the masters!  Become a “Friend of Greg Mathis” and donate today! No gift is too small or large. We are a nonprofit 501c3 and your gifts are tax deductible.

Thank you and welcome to the Greg Mathis family!
