Volunteering with orphan monkeys

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Megan Bellamy and I am a seventeen year old girl from a small town in Devon, England, called Totnes.
I am in the process of raising money so I can go out to South Africa to volunteer at the Bambelela Wildlife Santcuary.
Ever since I can remember I have felt a strong connection to animals and as I have grown older this has turned into a devoted passion. I grew up surrounded by house hold pets and frequrent vistits to the local zoo and a petting farm solidified my understanding that all animals are important in their own ways. Now that I am older, this philosophy has in no way changed, but now this feeling of love and care comes with some saddness as now I know that not everbody in the world shares my veiw.

Starting to pay attention to the news and doing my own research made me realise  the abuse that animals endure worldwide and at first I did not even want to listen or know. Deforestation, animals in labs, plastic destroying marine habitats and  much more made me so angry. I felt powerless and alone in the pain that I felt upon hearing about the on- going abuse and I did not know what I could do to help.

Now however, I am not so angry. Not because I have become accustomed to the knowledge, but because I now realise that it is possible for one individual to make a difference. Seeing organizations such as the WWF, the AWF and so many more making such a positive impact, I am  grateful and inspired by those who dedicate their lives to standing up for the environment and therefore the animals who depend upon it to survive.

So, I know that in my life, I will try my hardest to make as much of a change as I can but until quite recently it has never felt quite so urgent . I believed I could wait , causing as little damage as I could by eating consiously, recycling as much as I could and promoting conservation and wildlife programs, but in the last couple of months I have been feeling a desperate need to be doing something that is actively helping. Maybe this is because I realise how quickly the problem is increasing, or maybe because  I feel like I am old enough to go off on my own. So I have decided that I am going to out to South Africa to volunteer with the Bambelela Wildlife Sanctuary .
The Bambelela Care and Vervet Monkey Rehabilitation Facility is located 20km out of Bela Bela in Limpopo, South Africa. Bambelela's goal is to  rescue, rehabilitate and release members of three of the five South African Primate families; The Lesser Bush Baby, Chacma Baboon and the Vervet Monkey. Sadly, vervet monkeys in South Africa are often shot or poisoned by farmers, illegally captured for sale as pets, utilised by traditional doctors for “medicinal” purposes and vulnerable to such hazards as power lines, veld fires, habitat destruction and road accidents. The sanctuary primarily takes in small, pink-faced babies, generally orphaned after their mothers have been injured or killed.
I am hoping to go out to volunteer hosted by The Enkosini Eco Experience organization. They are a non-profit organization based in Africa and have kindly accepted my aplication to a volunteering program lasting two weeks at Bambelela. Unfortunatly I do not have all the funds. The total cost including travel, food, accommodation and project donation is going to be £1500. I have told them that I do not have access to all of  this money and they have been very co-operative and said that when I get the correct funds there will be a space for me. I would be so grateful for your help if you could find a way to support my journey out there. I am not asking to be fully funded by 'Gofundme'. I realise that I have to prove a commitment to this cause, therefore I have already raised £500 through my own efforts and savings and I am comitted to continue.
I will keep you updated with other fund raisers and events that I organise. Please check out all the incredible work that the organisations that I have linked.

Thank you so much!

Best wishes - Megan xx
