Volunteer Work In India

Donation protected
I stepped out of the train station. It was almost the end of the train line, far outside of New Delhi, India. I wandered down the street; on the right were crops and little houses thrown together with pieces of metal. I continued to wander and came to a clearing where I found myself under a bridge and realized I had stumbled upon a local school. Chalk squares had been painted on the sides of the bridge, with mats laid out all along the ground for kids to sit on. I got to spend an enlightening afternoon teaching the school children about my camera, helping them learn how to write and even got to take a tour of their village. The huts barely had any coverings on them and the families inside barely any food, yet the kids were some of the happiest I have ever seen.

After this incredible experience with these children, I knew I wanted to do more. I have come to ask for aid to give me the ability to reach and help these children of the School Under the Bridge, along with two other organizations, which are the Tibetan Nuns and the V.V. of women in Southern India. This money will pay for my transportation to these remote locations, along with living costs while I am there, with all of the remaining funds going directly to the three organizations.

The Tibetan Nuns Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and supporting female Buddhist monastics in India from all Tibetan Buddhist lineages. It supports nuns interested in study and higher ordination.

The final organization I will be working with is called V.V. and is in Southern India. The organization comprised of a village of girls who were illegally trafficked and functions to help them deal with the traumas they have been exposed to and eventually live healthy, fulfilling lives.

This money will help these organizations out so much, especially considering how far a U.S. dollar goes in India - I truly mean it when I say every dollar counts! I will be doing documentary photography at each organization, as well as volunteering my time and labor in any way they need me to. I will be working and living full time at these organizations for a total of seven weeks between all the organizations.
I'll be giving updates and getting the word out on my website at thebackpackingguru.com
