Volunteer Trek Mt Everest Base Camp

I'm turning 50! To celebrate, I'm donating literacy, story writing and mental health story programs in Kathmandu region. Im'm also trekking to Mt Everest Base Camp as a fundraiser for Teach for NepalTeach for Nepal .  They do amazing work bringing talented Nepali teachers to villages that need improvement on education.

I am grateful to Krishna Desar for inviting me to Nepal. He and I met in Washington DC through Karma Kitchen. He resonated with the fact that I sold my home and possessions to create a volunteer literacy project in Belize:

It started with story reading and evolved into story writing utilizing local indigenous legends. 

 I spent 7 years honing the project there and donated programs for 33,000 students and trained 800 teachers. 

My book about that adventure, A Bridge of Stories, was published this year! 

I look forward to serving teachers and students in Nepal in a similar way by highlighting their own cultural stories and teaching first person narrative writing.

I've been asked to share mental health stories as there is much stigma in Nepal and I have been quite open about my own journey: this is my story for This Is My Brave in DC October 2016

$3000 of your funds will go to Teach for Nepal as that is their minimum donation required to trek. Anything raised above that amount will help defer my own expenses traveling to Nepal and andy lodging. I am staying at Nexxus Community Center and homestays which charge.
