Tool Kits for Firefighter Survivors

Donation protected
On August 30, 2009, my brother LA County Fire Captain Tedmund Hall was killed in the line of duty saving over 60 men in the Station Fire.  His wife, Kathy Hall, and I attended a Firefighters Survivor's Conference in St. Louis, MO. in 2014.  We listened to spouses of these brave firefighters who had given all,  as they expressed  their fears and concern over maintaining and protecting the homes they had once shared with their fallen loved ones.  Some of these brave spouses spoke with tears in their eyes and shaking hands, their fear evident to all.   For most of these fallen firefighter survivors, their fallen loved one was the one who handled the home maintenance.

Kathy and I decided right there and then that we had to do something.  No one should be afraid of living in their own home, dreading when something would go wrong, and not knowing where to turn, or how.  So, this July in Annapolis, MD at the 2015 Firefighters Survivors Conference we will be teaching a workshop titled "Do-It- Herself Home".  We will have approximately 30 attendees .

Our Workshop will be hands-on learning to identify and use household hand and small power tools, how to hire a contractor successfully and how to identify problems and solutions of maintenance around their home.  It is mine and Kathy 's intent to ensure that no spouse of a fallen firefighter is afraid to tackle finding resolution to a household maintenance problem, giving then at least that sense of empowerment and confidence in once again claiming their "Home Sweet Home".

Its often said, "The most important part of any task is having the right tools."  We are asking your help to ensure that when these brave survivors leave our workshop empowered with not only knowledge but the right tools.  We would like to ensure that each workshop participant is provided a voucher totaling $22.00, upon completing the course , which they could be used to purchase a small complete tool kit of their very own. A proper beginning for tackling simple projects around the home.

Any amount that can be given to assist us with our goal will be  greatly appreciated by these families than you can imagine.  Any moneys provided over our goal will be donated in full to the National Fallen Firefighters Association to assist with funding their camp for minor children of these fallen heroes.
