Options of the Heart – giving all children a home
Children with special needs bring to the world a joy that words cannot describe.
They also have challenges that some parents can find daunting.
Expectant parents who learn that their child may have a disability are often devastated and in need of immediate care and assistance. We want to reach out to them to let them know that they are not alone.
Thousands of parents have overcome their fears and discovered that their child with special needs brings joy and love into their lives, just as any child would.
But for those who truly feel that they cannot cope with the challenges of a child with special needs, the adoption of that child into a waiting family is a positive and affirming choice.
Adoption of children with special needs is a very unique circumstance, and the families who adopt them are likewise unique, but they exist in more numbers than many people realize. These families can bring a world of help and healing to a couple who feel that a child with a disability is beyond their capabilities.
We want to bring these facts to our culture through our multi-media campaign. We know that 90% of unborn children diagnosed with a special need are aborted. Tragically, they are often aborted very late in the pregnancy, often post-viability.
We feel that this sad situation can be avoided if more and more families were aware of the fact that adoption is a positive and loving option for their child with special needs. Their child can make a difference in the world – they are wanted, and it is a matter of finding the right family to love and care for them.
We also want people to know that we can provide birthparents with information to help them through the stages of an adoption and, most importantly, SUPPORT following the adoption.
