Village School Education Project

Hi, my name is Somer Hook and I’m volunteering with VESA (volunteer eco students abroad). I am raising money to go volunteering in the Amazon this summer. During my trip i will be helping to provide remote villages with bathroom/toilet blocks, restoring the local villages school facilities and teaching English to primary school children.

The infrastructure work will involve building eco-friendly self-composting toilets, this will therefore prevent disease and infection within the community. As traditionally these villages have used the Napo River surrounding their homes for their bathroom needs. This program is therefore essential to the local communities who have no access to such basic necessities. 

The education program involves teaching local primary school children basic English. This provides villages with vital skills to gain employment in the sustainable tourism industry.

In total I have to fundraise £1250, not including flights! So any money you donate will go towards this trip: including costs for resources, hiring skilled trades people to assist and donations to local organisations!
