Velma Magazine is Austin's first and only women in tech publication.
Velma is a monthly publication that shares stories of women tech professionals working in Austin, TX. Unlike other business publications the tone of Velma is one of friendship, inclusion and new approaches to defining success.
We're raising funds to cover the cost of using Adobe Publishing Suite to produce monthly issues of the magazine for device specific use.
Currently, the entire Velma team is comprised of unpaid volunteers. We manage to do a lot with very little, but there are certain costs we need to cover in order to distribute Velma in the Apple and Google Play Stores.

A Fresh Approach to Careers in Tech
There are a growing number of women (and men) who aren't satisfied by the "brogrammer" culture plaguing many new media and tech companies. The pervasive stereotype about a career in tech involves living at the office and getting your kicks from game-breaks fueled by endless bowls of sugar cereal.
The truth is that there's a lot more to the tech industry then what you read about in Wired or Tech Crunch.
Velma showcases stories about individuals paving their own paths and providing alternatives to future generations who don't have relatable mentors. Our stories may feature women, but men play a crucial role as readers, contributors and advocates for change. We all benefit from diversity and moving past stereotypes.
