Vela Family Hurricane Recovery Fund

Greetings. This fund has been set up on behalf of my Aunt Sylvia and Uncle Jimmy Vela of Rockport, Texas. Their home and community along the Texas Gulf Coast have sustained major damage and their lives turned upside down in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
Their home needs major repair as it received extensive exterior damage, including the loss of most of their roof, windows, doors and deck. It may be determined to be structurally unsound, so a complete rebuild could be necessary. While they have filed a claim with their insurance company, their deductible will easily exceed $12,000 and they currently are unable to meet this obligation. In addition, their income has been impacted and will remain so until the city becomes operational and they are able to return to their homes. This has increased their household and living expenses beyond their current financial abilities.
High speed winds and torrential flooding have completely decimated this once beautiful and tranquil paradise. The community is left without running water, electricity and basic services. Gas stations and grocery stores are nonoperational, most of which also received severe damaged, forcing residents to travel long distances in order to obtain basic resources and necessities. On top of that, gas stations are either out of gas or the prices have spiked. My aunt and uncle are currently commuting back and forth between Austin and Rockport (a distance of over 200 miles) to stay around family and continue working.
We are hoping to raise $40,000 so they can start rebuilding immediately and have the resources they need to get through this difficult and stressful time. ALL donations will go towards clean-up and construction costs to begin rebuilding their home, for basic goods and supplies like groceries, toiletries, and fuel costs to help them commute between cities until their home is restored.
This request is made with gratitude and any amount donated is very much appreciated. My aunt and uncle regularly volunteer for various organizations, such as the Aransas County Humane Society and the Rockport Center for the Arts, and have indicated that they will use some of the funds to continue supporting others; they want to assist their neighbors and community in also recovering from this catastrophic event.
