Home Closing Costs

Donation protected

Hi, I'm Denise. I am a 50 year old, separated mother, of three. Two of my three are grown. Unfortunately, one of my children has medical issues that has kept them semi dependent upon me and one of course is yet a minor.

The separation was devasting to me both emotionally and financially. I had been a stay at home Mom since the birth of the third child and had no assets of my own to utilize. Its been 8 1/2 years and I am just now finally getting fully back on my feet financially. During those years I went back to school, earning my Bachelor's and Master's degrees with full honors. This of course entailed a rather substantial sum of student loan debt. Currently I work full-time for a non-profit, and part-time to earn a bit extra.

For the past 5 1/2 years I have been renting a house. Recently, the owner passed away and this house, along with all of the other rental properties he owned, are now in a trust for his heirs. The heirs have decided that they do not want to remain in the single unit rental market and are therefore selling this house, along with a few others.

The heirs have offered to sell me this house at a very good price, and I've already been pre-approved for a mortgage, but due to having spent these years supporting my children and digging myself out of debt I don't have the funds necessary for the balance of the down payment and the closing costs for the purchase.  It is for these expenses that I've decided to open a gofundme campaign.

Being able to purchase this house would mean the world to both me and my challenged daughter. The neighborhood is a good one, where I don't have to worry about my daughter if she decides to walk to her place of employment. There is public transportation available for her (she is incapable of driving) when she needs to go to her doctor appointments. I would loose the stress I am currently under worrying about whether or not I will have to move us, where I could possibly move us to, and how I would afford to do so. The purchase of the house would actually lower my monthly 'rent' expenses, even after adding in both real estate taxes and additional insurance.

The heirs want to complete the property sales rather quickly, and though I haven't been given a definitive deadline, I expect I only have about 30 to 60 days to accomplish this.

I haven't ever done something like this campaign before. Those who know me, know I don't generally ask for help. With the holidays upon us I feel the timing of this is dismal but I don't see any other way to manage this (I have looked into Community Development Grants etc already and I do not qualify.)

One of my favorite sayings is "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." For me, at this moment, these closing costs are my elephant. I would be forever grateful, as would my daughter, for any assistance we can receive at all from this campaign.

My deepest thanks to you,
