Haley J. Perkins A Cappella Academy

Hey there! My name is Haley J. Perkins and I'm a senior at Santa Susana High School. For as long as I can remember, music has been my deepest passion and given me the greatest fulfillment I've ever known.

At age 9 I started performing in musicals and by middle school, I had migrated into choir. It was a tiny choir of four girls, but it introduced me to the beautiful art of collaborative vocal music.

By the time I got to high school, I wanted nothing more than to be in a large ensemble where our collective sound could fill the hearts and minds of our audiences with raw emotion. I was granted this wish and spent two fruitful years in Vocal Ensemble, where I was shown the wonders of choral music and the extent of its emotional versatility.

However, I had my biggest epiphany when I first laid eyes (and ears) on my high school's advanced uber-talented 16-person audition-only a cappella group Abbe Road. They were dynamic, sharp, exciting, and impecably cool, and from my freshman year onward, I resolved to try everything I could to get in. Although I didn't make it in after I auditioned at the end of my freshman year, it gave me the push and fire I needed to develop into the kind of vocalist ready to accept the huge undertaking and privilege of acceptance into Abbe Road A Cappella.

Fortunately, at the end of my sophomore year, I was more prepared than ever not only to showcase my vocal talents, but to sing my heart out. This proved to be the key to my entry into what would become the most amazing artistic journey I would ever take.

Over the almost-two years I've been in Abbe Road, my appreciation for a cappella music has continually grown. It's become an obsession, a passion, and one of the most tremendous joys I've ever known. It's allowed me to widen my horizons and connect with people on levels that I never would have been able to before.

Through my love of a cappella, I happily stumbled upon a unique camp called A Cappella Academy. It was founded by esteemed and beloved a cappella legends Avi Kaplan, Ben Bram, and Rob Dietz, all of whom belong to exceptional a cappella groups. Its purpose is to create a dynamic, inventive, and remarkably fun environment where talented young vocalists can come together to learn, create, and perform a cappella music together. In addition to its magnificent co-founders, A Cappella Academy's staff are all active, ridicuously talented a cappella vocalists who want nothing more than to fill our maleable minds with immeasurable musical wisdom.

I auditioned for A Cappella Academy on a whim, not really expecting to get in but definitely hoping. Amazingly, I was granted entrance. I was one of the lucky 73 out of 556 people, the top 13%, who had been given this astounding gift. However, the only obstacle that stands in my way is the tuition of $1995. My dad lives and works overseas and my mom has to drive me everywhere for all of my performances and rehearsals, so money is always tight. I certainly hope that you can find it in your heart to help me on my way, even if it's just a little bit. I'm grateful even for admittance, and to be able to act on that would be such a blessing. Thank you so so much :)
