I have known August Zona for more than 40 years. During that time music has been a constant in his life. Even though he has worked as a cabinet installer, air conditioning technician and powerboat builder, music was always his passion.
Augie and his wife Candace moved from Hollywood FL to the west coast near Fort Myers where he worked for Nor-Tech Hi- Performance boats. At the same time he and his wife, a singer, established a reputation for their dynamic music, playing locally under the name of The Certified Band. Augie recorded his own and other people’s music as a bass and guitar player and singer.
Recently after a long illness Augie was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He underwent surgery to have his thyroid removed but he also suffers from degenerative and herniated discs and peripheral neuropathy causing him to be in constant pain and unable to work. The inability to take care of his responsibilities has resulted in anxiety and depression.
He has had to give up his job with Nor-Tech and the gigs that he and Candace have scheduled are next to impossible for him to manage. Medical and other bills continue to pile up while very little income is coming in. As a friend who has known him for all these years I can say that Augie has never been afraid to work at 110% to support himself, his wife and his beloved dogs. I am asking for his friends and fellow musicians to reach out to help him get back on his feet.
