Emergency Roof fund

My husband and I bought our home 3 years ago and we could not have been happier. About a year and half ago we noticed that the palm trees that are located on the neighboring property behind ours are completely infested with rats. We quickly realized that those rats had made their home in our attic, commuting back and forth on power lines.  We saw the rats walking the power line in and out of our attic through a hole they made in the overhang of the house! We have attempted to speak with the owners of the property where the palm trees are located with no repose or acknowledgment of what is going on.  I suggested to my neighbors that they clean up the palms in hopes that the rats would leave but then noticed the rats are also living in the large, thick hedge they have that wraps around the perimeter of their property.

I contacted FPL to see if they could help and they said they could not because the palm trees were not on FPL property or my property. My husband and I have patched hole after hole, set countless traps and successfully caught well over 20 rats (one of which we caught in a trap INSIDE the house). Not to mention that the cats that live in the neighborhood know about the rats and congregate in our back yard every night to catch the ones that dare to walk on the ground (which at this point I welcome the cats).

We currently have a tarp on the roof because we do not know where else the rats have made an entry points into the roof the tarp is to prevent rain from getting into the roof and making the situation worse. 

We put in a claim with our insurance to attempt to get help on fixing the roof and at that point found out that the A/C ducts in the attic have also been damaged. Our homeowners insurance basically told us they will not cover any of the cost for repairs. Currently in court with our insurance and working with a property adjuster.

We contacted out city and they are in process of working with the owner of the palms to have them either removed or trimmed up to get rid of the rats. * follow up: the palms will be cut down mid to late January*

We are at a standstill because, while the palm trees will hopefully come down soon, we simply do not have the funding to make all the repairs needed. We need to repair the roof in its entirety (to ensure that any and all entry points are sealed), we have to replace the A/C ducts and insulation in the attic and then will have to tent the house to kill off any fleas / parasites the rats may of left in the attic.

I started this go fund me to raise as much as we can to make repairs to our home. We have looked into a home repair loan but cannot afford the payments afterwards. We are hoping to raise as much as we can so that the loan we will need to get will be less. Thank you so much for your donation and help!!
