Frackville Community Pool

$2,871 of $100,000 goal

Frackville needs a new community pool!  When the snow melted in the spring of 2015 we found that the walls of the pool, had moved away from the deck.  Mother Nature and Father Time seem to be to blame. The cost to make repairs for one season, until the problem could be fixed was estimated at hundreds of thousands of dollars and Council decided a better effort was to rebuild a more modern pool.  Council immediately set aside most of the 2015 pool budget for the project.  While Council hopes to receive a grant for half of the estimated one million dollar cost, community donations will reduce the amount of the additional loan the Borough (in other words, taxpayers) will need to fund the project.  This is the last remaining outdoor public pool in our area of the county.  Children from Frackville and surrounding towns rely on the pool for a place to spend summer days, learn to swim and as a place for private parties and free swims!   The pool in its current configuration was built in 1978 and funded entirely by donations.  The prior pool was built in the 50's.  The availability of a community pool is a legacy we hope to continue.

Larry and Paul did a great job with the Pool Committee's sausage and meatball sandwich stand at the FBPA's Pumkin Festival this weekend! Thank you! The next meeting is Tuesday night and the next fundraiser is Sunday at the Senior Citizen's Center with Jewelry Express!

To update our Go Fund Me supporters, things are running pretty smoothly right now. The proposal for the feasibility study was approved in August. We need the study to apply for the grant. We want a grant to cover at least half of the estimated cost.
We had a small home show party with about a dozen people at my home in July, which raised over $100. This was an example of a fundraiser any individual can do without much fuss.
We have collection cans in the community and people have been very generous with them. We try to collect them every month.
We had a dance at the Elks over Labor Day weekend with Another Side, Joe Jordan and Local Tourist. We sold out! It was a big success.
Last night Rotary had a night at Friendly's. We got 10% of all meals sold between 5&8. They said it was one of the best groups they had there. We also had a bake sale there. It was another success and there is so much more to come!

Yes, there are other pools in the county, but this was the last outdoor community pool "north of the mountain". JFK and the pool in Minersville are very nice. In fact, Minersville has offered our residents a great deal on passes. Check it out on the Frackville Pool FB page. But, realistically these pools are difficult for children and families to travel to daily. So, as stated above, this is the last remaining outdoor public pool in our area of the county.

Countless good memories of time at the Frackville Pool. I hope the goal is reached and the kids in town have a wonderful place to have fun on those warm summer days. Thanks to all those who are working hard to make this a reality and also thanks to my parents Eleanor and Dan for encouraging me to take advantage of the pool when I was a lad. This one is for you Mom and Dad.
