My name is Jana Smith and I have a husband, Donnie, and three wonderful boys ages 13, 4, and 2. We also have a new baby on the way in December!
On Sunday, May 17, 2015, I slipped in our kitchen on a trash can lid that had accidentally found its way into the middle of the floor. I hit my knee very hard and ended up taking an ambulance to the ER later that night. I had tried to wait and go to the dr the next day because my ER copay is $300 vs a dr copay of $81.
However, I was absolutely unable to move my leg without extreme pain and there was no way my husband could get me to the doctor without help. At the ER, I was given an immobilizer which gave me the ability to at least move around, although I still need help getting up/down and that continues to be painful.
I visited the orthopedist today and he is confident that I have torn my patellar tendon and will need surgery to repair it. I go in for a MRI on Wednesday, and anticipate surgery on Friday, May 22.
This was all very unexpected, obviously, and due to our less than ideal insurance, are facing growing medical bills. ER visit and ambulance are likely $500, and each office visit is $81, not to mention the cost of the MRI and the surgery itself.
