Columbia, SC Flood Victim

Sammie has lived in Pine Glen subdivision for 37 years and woke up Sunday morning, October 4, 2015 to water a few feet from her back door due to the rising Saluda River.  In the short amount of time she had before evacuating, she gathered as many belongings as would fit in her car. The water was flowing into her home that afternoon according to neighbors.  She was not able to see her home until 3 days later.  Everything inside her home has been removed (kitchen sink, cabinets, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, flooring, sheetrock in all rooms) down to the studs.  It does not feel or smell like home. The county is still working on the assessment of whether they will allow a building permit for her to rebuild.  From what she is understanding, if she is allowed to rebuild,  her house will need to be elevated several feet first (which will be almost impossible).  At this point she doesn't know when she will find out or if she will be able to rebuild the home where her 3 children were raised.  It has been overwhelming (so many memories) and she has most likely lost more than 50% of her home value.  I have worked with Sammie for many years and know what a kind and wonderful person she is. Please consider donating and  keeping her in your prayers.
