Urdd Gobaith Cymru- Volunteering Trip to Patagonia

Patagonia is a Welsh-speaking Colony in the South of Argentina which was founded in 1865 by migrants who wished to secure the future of the Welsh Language away from the influences of the English in Wales and the Americans in the Welsh Settlements in States like Ohio, Philadelphia and Virginia. The Urdd Gobaith Cymru, a Welsh Youth movement takes around 25 teenagers from accross Wales to Patagonia every year in order to establish and strengthen links between the Welsh communities in Argentina and Wales.

As well as ensuring that the Welsh language continues to thrive both in Patagonia and in Wales, the trip also allows those taking part to volunteer in the two local welsh-medium primary schools, meet elderly people in the welsh-speaking communities and aid locals with the refurbishment of buildings in the area.

Clearly, there is a cost for the trip; everyone travelling to Patagonia must raise £2,575 by September 2018 in order to attend this trip. I am asking for a small fraction of the total needed on this website as I will be holding various fund-raising events within my school and local area- if you wish to stay updated with these events please take a few minutes to look at my blog: https://yflogddwyieithog.blogspot.co.uk/

Any donation would be greatly apprecited as this trip is an amazing opportunity for me to promote the Welsh language in my local area and experience for myself the strength of my language on the other side of the world in Patagonia.
