Urban Dreamer in Cape Town | ASF-UK

Hello! My name is Sara Altamore. I am an architect studying regional planning and public policies at the University of Venice (IUAV).

I have a great opportunity coming up:

I have been invited by ASF (Architects Sans Frontiers - Architects Without Borders) as field volunteer, from July 1st to September 14th.  During my time spent there, I will attend a two week workshop that will be held in Cape Town, from July 16th to 27th. The workshop aims to build and consolidate a network of architects, planners and urban designers.  It will explore a range of sites in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, dealing with inadequate housing conditions, homelessness, and the risk of displacement.



The aim is to co-design a set of rental housing typologies which can be adopted by Khayelitsha’s small-scale developers and self-builders, in order to challenge uneven access to housing and rights in the city.  This means helping people have access to basic amenities such as food, water and a safe rout to accessing education. ASF-UK tries to reach a global impact supporting local networks of architects and built environment practitioners who are interested in making a strong contribution locally. ASF tries to give agency to people in marginalized conditions. Engagement between professionals and local communities is seen as a gateway to successful projects.



With your help, this campaign will allow me to get closer to my dream goal by financing the journey that will lead me to work with a multidisciplinary group of professionals sharing similar values. With every dollar you contribute, this campaign will help me pay for the workshop fee as well as my plane ticket and accommodations for 2 weeks while I attend the workshop in Cape Town and volunteer. To make this dream a reality a total of 2000 euros would help pay for my basic needs while I volunteer and contribute my architectural skills in hopes to solve Cape Town’s housing challenge.



Any additional donations made by you will go towards ASF-UK as well as DAG (Development Action Group) and play an important part in helping us build better communities so as to improve the lives of many of the world’s most vulnerable people.

Ciao! Mi chiamo Sara Altamore. Sono un architetto e dottoranda in pianificazione territoriale e politiche pubbliche all'Università IUAV di Venezia.

Ho una fantastica opportunità:

partecipare come volontaria sul campo ad un progetto di Architettura senza frontiere (ASF-UK) e il Development Action Group (DAG).

Sarò tre mesi in Sudafrica, a Città del Capo, dal 1 luglio al 14 settembre. Lo scopo dei lavori sarà quello di supportare le comunità locali ad affrontare alcune delle sfide che affliggono le comunità a basso reddito a Città del Capo.
Durante questa occasione parteciperò ad un workshop che si terrà sempre a Città del Capo dal 16 al 27 luglio.  Il workshop mira a costruire e consolidare una rete di architetti, pianificatori e urban designer. Esplorerà una serie di siti a Khayelitsha, Città del Capo, interessati da condizioni abitative inadeguate, senzatetto e rischio di spopolamento.

L'obiettivo è quello di co-progettare una serie di tipologie di alloggi che possano essere adottate costruttori locali di piccole dimensioni, al fine di sfidare l'accesso irregolare a alloggi e favorire il diritto alla città.   Ciò significa aiutare le persone ad accedere a servizi di base come cibo, acqua e una rotta sicura per accedere all'istruzione.

Lo scopo di ASF-UK è quello di raggiungere un impatto globale agendo in prossimità dei contesti più svantaggiati e instaurando relazioni di lunga durata con le comunità, le associazioni, i professionisti e i singoli cittadini.


Grazie al vostro aiuto, attraverso questa campagna, potrò realizzare il mio obiettivo e avvicinarmi al mio sogno finanziando il viaggio che mi permetterà di lavorare insieme ad un gruppo multidisciplinare di professionisti condividendo valori simili.
Ogni euro donato alla causa, mi aiuterà a pagare la quota per partecipare al workshop coprendo le spese primarie e il biglietto aereo e realizzare così il mio sogno di essere volontaria per ASF-UK qui a Città del Capo. Per realizzare questo sogno un totale di 2000€  mi aiuterà a finanziare queste spese e contribuire, con le mie competenze architettoniche, nella speranza di risolvere la sfida abitativa di Città del Capo.


Ogni altra donazione in più andrà a ASF-UK e DAG e svolgerà un ruolo importante nell'aiutarci a  finanziare progetti volti a migliorare la vita delle persone tra le più vulnerabili del mondo.
