We are raising money to reunite two families separated by the civil war in Syria. One has recently settled in Nova Scotia and the other remains in Jordan with his family of 10. The money from this campaign will be used to sponsor the brother who is still living in Jordan so he can come to Canada.

We are a community refugee sponsorship group, Colchester Family Refugee Sponsorship (CFRS), working through a federally approved Sponsorship Agreement Holder. We need your support to this sponsorship a possibility. The budget follows guidelines set up by the federal government. We will support them to pay for things in their first year including: rent for 1 year in Colchester County, transportation to and from appointments, utilities for their home for one year, beds for all 10 people, furniture, sheets, towels, kitchen appliances, winter clothing, clothes, footwear and school supplies for the children.

CFRS met these families when some of our members helped to bring the first brother to Nova Scotia 2 years ago. The young family is incredibly resilient and it has been a joy to be a part of their resettlement. Despite arriving in the middle of a cold Canadian night and all the trauma and challenges they have faced, their positive attitudes and hope for the future have helped them successfully settle. They have both secured full-time employment and are improving their English skills daily, while their toddler is attending daycare and rapidly learning English. They approached us to form a new refugee sponsorship group for this new sponsorship, and are participating members of CFRS. We have been in constant contact with the family in Jordan to assist them in their immigration applications.

Things are not as positive for the family still in Jordan, where circumstances for Syrians are increasingly precarious. They face crowded living conditions, few resources and a growing threat of forced return to Syria, despite the region still being in turmoil and lacking so many essential resources.

Out of great concern for this family’s welfare, and a desire to see these two families reunited, we are kindly asking for your consideration of donations to this cause. We regret that we are not able to provide charitable tax receipts, as private refugee sponsorship groups are not eligible to register as charities. We do hope that despite this, you will consider this a cause worth supporting.

Family reunification has been cited as one of the most important factors in helping refugees successfully resettle in Canada. As such we have great hope that this young, recently resettled family, may one day be reunited with their extended family.

Once withdrawn into our bank account, the money will be transferred to the overseeing Sponsorship Agreement Holder, the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth. They will disperse the funds to the family when the arrive from Jordan.

A sincere thank you for your consideration of this request.
