Remember Jace With a Book

I am running this book drive on behalf of Ryan & Bekah Lambert who sent their son, Jace Steven, into the arms of God last July. Jace was with his earthly family for 27 days before passing due to HLHS - severe deformities of the heart. In honor and memory of his first birthday, we are running a book drive for UVA Children’s Hospital where Jace was born and treated by amazing nurses, surgeons, and doctors who fought for his life.
We know that reading aloud to infants and children is of the utmost importance- but it is especially so for NICU/hospital bound families. Studies have shown that infants who are read aloud to by a caregiver in a hospital setting have more steady oxygen levels that can last for up to an hour after the read aloud took place. Voice exposure can be an important way for parents to participate in the care of their infants. Providing books for this hospital will help connect families and provide like-home experiences for them during their stay. It is Ryan and Bekah's wish to honor their son's memory by donating the books for his first birthday (June 21st).
The book drive will run from May 8-10th and the goal is to collect $1,000 in donations to purchase books so that children and their families who stay in the hospital can enjoy the comfort that reading a book together can bring. Books Bring Hope - and these families need hope.
The hospital has specifically asked for a donation of Spanish board books, and we are so thrilled to be able to fill that huge need. The books will be donated in person by Ryan, Bekah, and their son Cooper prior to their move across the country at the end of this month.
Whether you are able to donate $5 or $500, all funds will go directly towards the purchase of books. Usborne books will generously match each donation at 50%, as well as offering free shipping for this great cause.
