Help Triumph over Cancer for Angie

Donation protected
With sadness in our hearts, we write about our beautiful friend, wife, mother,  and passionate carer, Angie Gilbert-Sylla,  whose life was tragically cut short on September 29, 2015.  Angie worked tirelessly as a social worker helping to save our parentless, fostered, troubled or at-risk children, and dedicated her time to helping our youth navigate the criminal justice system, to get fair judicial hearings and avoid the risk of ending up in jail. An educated woman, who worked hard to earn two degrees, she was a strong proponent of education and used her knowledge and passion to help juveniles get back on the right track; encouraging them to continue their education. She experienced up close the effects on children who are uneducated and unsupported. Realizing the critical role education plays, her dream was that her own children, who are now 10 and 5 years old, would have a chance to go to college, achieve higher education and support so that they will never be at risk of entering the criminal justice system.

Unfortunately, Angie never lived to fulfill her dreams. In March 2015, just two months after burying her mother, Angie was diagnosed with gall bladder cancer, a cancer affecting less than 1% of Americans. Six months later, on Tuesday September 29th, 2015 she died.  Angie's life was sadly cut short at the age of 45 leaving behind a loving husband and two young children. The children lost both their loving grandmother and now their mother in the same year. Angie fought hard. She wanted so much to live and witness her little boy's first day at school in September and her daughter's 10th birthday party in the same month. She didn't make either.

Angie's body never recovered from her short round of chemotherapy. Her life sadly ended but her dreams live on. We promise to bring Angie's educational dreams to life by starting this education fundraiser for Angie's beautiful angels. We will not let cancer steal away her dreams and call on you to help us triump over cancer and make Angie's dream come true. All donations will be invested in an education fund and placed in trust for Angie's two children to help toward their college education.

We thank you for your support.
