There is a homeless crisis in Chico that has been going on for far too long. It is worse than it has ever been.
Simplicity Village is the ethical and effective reponse needed to combat the growing homeless population which has been increasing significantly each year.
We want to build houses to give people a temporary place to stay and rebuild their lives. Everyone deserves to have the security of a roof over their head. It is the foundation of a person's health, safety and sanity to be able to have a place to go at the end of each day.
Simplicity Village would cost the city of Chico virtually nothing to what the city spends on services dealing with the homeless today. Just last year the Enloe hospital spent 14.2 million dollars in emergency room funds for the homeless. When you provide shelter for people, hospital services go down 78% according to research done North Carolina University. That is huge.
Th objective of Simplicity Village is give people a connection to a community. Studies show that people develop anti-social behavior when they are shunted by society and are unable to trust anybody. We would create a safe environment for to people connect and develop good relationships with each other.
