Honoring Our Mother’s Life

In September Buddy, Jenny and Mike came down with COVID and all had to be hospitalized in Bedford, TX. Mike and Jenny are recovering and still on oxygen to function day to day. On Sept 19th Buddy was airlifted from Bedford, TX to Oklahoma City, OK to be placed on ECMO, at a highly specialized unit at Integris Baptist Medical Center. It has been a huge roller coaster of emotions as we got Jenny well enough to be able to stay in Oklahoma City with my parents to be close to him and be there to make informed medical decisions.<br />For those that don't know Buddy came to work with our plumbing company a few years ago when he left the police force. He is the personality of our company, as Mike is more of the curmudgeon (a lovable curmudgeon, but still grumpy).<br /><br />Since this all started we have not only missed the full presence of Buddy, but we have missed milestone moments as well.<br /><br />David and Becca had their wedding the night that Buddy went into the hospital, we all missed it, especially Jenny and Buddy.<br /><br />Buddy and Jenny were married last year, but were having their church wedding on Sept 13th, but Buddy was in the hospital so that didn't happen.<br /><br />Mom, Dad, &amp; Emilia's birthdays came and went.<br /><br />World Series has happened, and I can't tell you how many fish have been able to swim in peace with Buddy laid up.<br /><br />We are seeing so many steps of progress, that we are thankful for. The Dr's use the term the Dance, when we see progress there has been many times we see have seen a step back. It is in those moments we lean on all of you who are lifting us up with support.<br /><br />We are so thankful for you to come on this journey with us. i think the hardest thing for any of use is admitting when we need help and reaching out to different outlets to do so, but this is me reaching out, sharing my Pups story and hoping we can all ban together to come together for an amazing cause. My pup thor is like my best friend. im sure most can relate to having your pup your ride or die with you. we always go on hikes together and anytime theres somewhere new he's right by my side. i can't remember the last time i went on a hike without him honestly. He's a german shepard/husky mix so its in his blood to be right there in the thick of it, and living in the desert i can't find any better reason to get him out in his element when i can... sadly about 3 months ago this all came to a halt on our last hike, we were out going to one of our favorite lookouts in the wrightwood mountains and i usually always keep him off the leash out there. He loves it. this time was harshly different, we walked up this tower we have as our secret spot that has a beautiful view of the surrounding area, which is pretty high, its about 40-50ft tall if i had to say. he was leading up the tower and out of nowhere jumped off the side. i can't say for sure but i would assume he saw a rabbit and you know how dogs are he reacted. My heart DROPPED. i don't think he could correlate the depth of this fall and i had to stand there watching him fall to what i thought was his death. landing in a pile of sharp rocks i watched him hit the ground and heard squeals of death that at first i could only imagine the worst. i ran as fast as i could to him and checked very carefully and methodically for any signs of internal bleeding, breaks of any sort. his whole face was bloody and he couldn't stand if he wanted to. At this point im in full on survival mode for him cause i couldn't imagine having to watch my dog die on the mountain, i didn't know how bad it was. i waiting about 20 minutes to see if maybe he could get up but with no luck he was crippled. both front feet completely noodled. i has no choice but to carry him off the mountain and get him to the nearest VET i could. by this time its already late so i began carrying him of the mountain which was about 3 miles into the forest and the sun had already set which isn't an easy task with an 100lb dog on your back. but i couldn't leave him, i WOULDNT. i took him to the vet and after multiple X-rays they concluded everything was fine and they were just two front sprains and with medication and time to heal he would be great in no time. You can imagine the happiness in me when i found out best case scenario that everything is ok and he's gonna be just fine... Fast forward 4 weeks and im looking at him with no progress and the saddest defeated look in his eyes. i thought this would be all ok by now, i thought he would be up and running, playing and hiking. So of coarse i take him back to the vet asking wy no progress and whats going on.. they send me to a specialist where he then determines ALL the ligaments in BOTH front carpal joints are completely torn! and if you know anything about ligaments is that they DONT grow back they don't repair in time.. it is what it is. Heart in the pit of my stomach knowing he original doctor had misdiagnosed and left me with hope. It's been almost 4 month now and he CANNOT walk, he cannot run, he can barely put enough pressure on them to bring him in the house where he says with me most days. the most heartbreaking part is knowing he may NEVER walk again, he won't be able to play with the other dogs, hike run, swim. NO dog should have to give up the only freedoms they love. with this Surgery you would be donating to his cause as well as giving him a future. he's 5 and still full of live and can't imagine his live if he can't walk. This surgery will fully repair and rebuild the ligaments as well as give him the ability to walk again.
