Fund to support Keira & her family

In January, after 4.5 years of living in our house, the city showed up late on a Friday and asked to see the electrical boxes. Within one hour myself, my husband and our 4 kids were put out onto the street with whatever we could quickly cram into a backpack. The city filled us in telling us that our landlord had been told prior to renting to us that the structure, foundation and electrical wiring on the house were unsafe and he was not to rent out the house. He ignored them. The city hired us a lawyer and told us the landlord had 7 days to relocate us. Instead, he instantly changed the locks on our house and then had his maintenance crew get to work destroying everything we owned. The police were called out multiple times as they chopped up our furniture on the front lawn and burned it in our own fireplace. They'd stop when the police told them to and then would continue once they left. They tore apart our 3 cars and had the remains towed away. We literally lost everything we'd owned, including my job as we were suddenly homeless and without transportation, clothing, etc. For months we have couch surfed and stayed in motels or in our car. We no longer have possessions. Birth certificates, photos, trophies my kids earned, furniture, household goods, every single thing we worked hard for... gone.

We have a lawsuit against the landlord but have discovered just how long that process takes. We have to completely rebuild a life, find a new home, new jobs, piece together a new future... beds, sheets and blankets, clothing, pots and pans, furniture... all the things you live with to function.

This has been a disaster and taken an emotional toll on all of us, especially my 4 children who had their lives turned upside down in a split moment. We are blessed to have our health although we are not all together. We are grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and emotional support we have gotten from friends, family and our church. Many have suggested starting a GoFundMe to ask for help rebuilding a new life for our family and I hesitated in doing so, partly out of pride and shame and partly because I had no real understanding of how the lawsuit would work. It's time to move past that and ask for help. We pray daily for God to provide for our family and to use this as a way to strengthen us and grow our faith but we are human and stressed and scared but still knowing that one day this will be behind us and something even better is coming.

On behalf of Matt, Owen, Olivia, Emi and Dustin and myself, we thank you for reading, donating anything you feel you can, for sharing and praying for our family. God Bless You!
