Trip to Malawi: Survivors of abuse

Donation protected

My name is Tiyamike Muyenda-Quittmeyer. I was born in the small third world country of Malawi, South East Africa in 1993 and soon after my birth became an orphan. In 1994,I was adopted by an American family who happened to be in the country doing missionary work. My adoptive mother Terri Jimenez (then Quittmeyer), founded the orphanage Yamikani House which still runs today under another director in Malawi.

I am currently working on getting my degrees in nursing and psychology in hopes of becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner(slow as it may be due to finances). I am also a certified pharmacy technician on leave from employment with Walgreen's at the moment.

I have been blessed to have had the opprotunity for primary and secondary education, some higher education, career advancement, first world medical care, and other such necessesities which we as Americans take for granted daily. Millions of women however, do not have these luxuries and it pains my heart deeply. I have struggled with the after effects of sexual assult and abuse for years. Had it not been for the medical care and psychological support I recieved, only God knows what would have happened to me. It has been weighing heavy on my heart to help those women and young girls back home in Malawi who have been through such nightmares and worse I am sure, yet do not have the support or resources they need in order to heal.

My fiancé Anthony and I are working with a close family friend, Kulsum Hassan, to begin a non profit organization who's focus will be exactly this. She personally has been at work with orphans and the less fortunate of Malawi for years. Her love for the people and dedication is truly inspiring.
You can view her work on her profile; it is endless.

We are asking for your help to get back home so that we can work hands on with Mrs. Hassan and the people of my country to make this work come to pass. Our dream is to eventually open up a clinic/clinics and a safe haven where women can come and recieve the psycological and emotional help that they cannot find anywhere else. Our goal is to leave the United States by the beginning of the summer. The money will be used for getting a passport for Anthony, the renewing of my passport, flight costs, travel while there, medical expenses while there, accomadations when needed, and food. The accomadations will be practical and the food will be simple. We will be giving you all updates, including written posts and media, on our advances in communities and networking with other individuals and organizations. Any gift will be greatly appreciated . Don't forget to pass this along to your friends and family.

Sincere thanks, Tiyamike Quittmeyer
