I was scarcely 4 years old the first time my Dad brought me into his sheet metal shop and introduced me to "work". OK, my size, strength and skill set certainly did not enhance my Dad’s productivity. Yes, I know I was a hindrance! But, by the time I was about 6 or 7 I had his truck memorized. He could send me to the truck for a Whitney punch or a hand full of 1/4-inch number 8 sheet metal screws and know I would not return with left-hand airplane snips or 1/2-inch wood screws. Work was something I enjoyed. It gave me a feeling of fulfillment and accomplishment.
Even though I have less than 10% of perfect vision I have accomplished many things in life including work outside the United States. Work, paid or volunteer, has always been a joy.
For the past 23 years, I have been leading the ministries to the Blind of the Assemblies of God. Several times during my tenure I have had assistance from our state Rehab Services for the Blind with the purchase of expensive adaptive equipment designed for people with low vision.
Once again I find myself in need of new equipment to keep productive. The state agency won't help this time because of my age. They believe I should retire and pursue a hobby or spend my life watching Andy Griffith reruns.
I am not ready to quit. In many ways, I feel more ready than ever to take on some challenging goals and to keep active and productive. However, I need a video magnifier for my home office.

This unit is an HD camera mounted on a frame that also holds a large video screen. Small font materials can be put under the camera and enlarged on the screen. Another great feature is that the unit OCRs text and reads the words outload.
The ministry provided one for my work office. It is a tremendous asset. I use it every day.
I am blessed to have an office in my home that allows me to work on projects when I am not at work. This is especially handy when transportation is an issue. However, at home I must resort to the slow and cumbersome use of handheld magnifiers. It is easy to get bogged down and warn out doing tasks that should be simple.  That is why I am determined to get one of these video magnifiers with speech for my home.

As of the writing of this presentation, the cost of the unit is $4080 including shipping. I received a grant to cover $2000 of the cost. Now the goal is to raise the $2080 for the balance by early June, 2017 to beat the expiration date of the grant. I am hoping GoFundMe will work.
