Toby needs housing to keep her kids

Hi folks! About 9 months ago I came out as trans, and my marriage ended shortly thereafter. Things are going okay, but my housing is... not a perfect situation.

Right now I'm living in mom's basement. It's working okay, I even got a rug! But my mom is already housing my brother and his three kids, so space is tight, and now that the rain has started there's water leaking into my living space.

But there's some really good news: I've been given some space behind my mother's house where I could build a cottage!

I'm asking for help with a down payment on construction. As my divorce is finalized I'll have access to the money to finish out the space and with a small loft it will comfortably house me and the kids.

By ensuring that I have safe, autonomous housing, I'll make sure that I'm able to continue doing shared custody, which is my primary concern.

I recently stopped contracting and started working full-time as a writer for a tech startup. I have a good income, but taking on new debts is troublesome as we try to reach a mediated divorce settlement. This money will help me get housed sooner and ensure there's no time period where I'm unable to care for my kids.

House plans are commencing, the space is getting prepared and the construction is on the calendar for the 10th. On the other hand, this is a stone bummer. Part of the plan for the cottage is to electrify it, and right now there's no room in the breaker box :/ Got a contractor coming in Tuesday to see what's possible, but it's possible the whole cottage will have to run on a single 15-amp line.

Little bit of water is running into my basement room, I'm getting ready to move upstairs, but construction starts October 10th (and knowing Tuff Shed, it will be done before October 11th), meaning all of this has an end date! Here's me and Mini hanging out in the basement. She really likes my mirror

Step 1 of building a cottage is laying down some kind of foundation. Since I’m on a budget and the size will bear it, the thing will sit on gravel. I just had a giant pile of the stuff, specifically 1/4 inch crush recycled concrete, delivered. I’ve hired someone to help me move it up the steps and around the back of the house where the cottage is gonna go.

Your donations made it possible for me to hire the help I need. It’s looking like I’ll have the site prepped in time to build the cottage at the earliest possible time, early October!
