About:

The In-School/After-School "Video and Media Production for Web Content" training program exists to expose teenagers in under served communities to the worlds film and video creation. Our belief is that a holistic learning approach to exploring the world is needed early in a child's development to open their eyes to the infinite number of opportunities they have to become successful and productive members of society. We will lead by example, mentor, guide, and inspire the teens to work together as one unit to achieve a common goal. To make a great film, television/web show, or public service announcement, the teens will have to work together as a team. Working as a team will teach the teens about responsibilities and accountabilities, and will provide them with social networking skills that will be vital to their growth as they embark on their professional future careers.

Goal

To use the exciting mix of film-making and technology to teach teenagers all aspects of creating a Web Show. Each participant will learn about the stages of preproduction, production, postproduction and marketing, and how each stage supports the next stage for assuring a quality produced web show that will be very popular, informative, engaging and motivating. We are targeting teens who have an interest in writing, film making, hosting, producing and marketing. This program will educate them about the reach and power of visual online media, and how to use this medium to communicate and express their ideas, concerns, and stories, to their peers, family, community, country, and the world.

Training

Training will cover all technical and creative aspects of film and video production, by examining the tools of the crew and creating lessons that will teach the teens how to analyze scenes, including shot choices, lighting styles, transitions, and more. Each teen will learn about the various jobs and careers in the film industry and how each department is necessary to the overall success of the project.

 Preproduction -
How to produce the web show. Creating show topics, scouting locations, booking talent/guest, assigning responsibilities to each group member.

Production -
Filming the actual content(s) for the web show. How to direct the web show and work with the talent/guest. How to setup and use a video camera. How to set up lighting and how to capture audio/dialogue/sound.

Postproduction -
How to edit the video footage. How to add a musical score. How to create titles and credits.

Marketing -
How to promote the web show. Leaning about web sites and apps that can be used to generate interest and a fan base for the web show.

Topics

Potential topics for the web show would consist of issues that affect teens on a daily basis, such as bullying and peer pressure, to community concerns and poverty. Other topics for discussion can including, which colleges to attend, interviewing a student/athlete or someone from the community with a successful career and/or business. I really would like the teens to decide what topics they would like to discuss, based on which topics are most important to them and their community.
