The Inspiration + Goal For The Fund
The THIS Day Fund was inspired by an event I sponsored a few years back, for cancer patients at the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in Boston. It's a beautiful community where cancer patients from around the country stay for free for the duration of their treatment with some of the country's top cancer treatment hospitals only miles away.
I wanted this community to have hope for healing at a time when it would have been easy to give up; and I wanted them to have a vision for an amazing life after cancer. And so THIS Day (There's Hope In Sight), was birthed.
The day was centered around free Reiki treatments and included a vision board workshop to help patients create a 3-D snapshot of the life of their dreams. There were various alternative therapies and nutritional information as well, but mostly there was love, and it was palpable in the space.
Most patients were excited about receiving Reiki, some where curious, but ALL were blown away at how much better they felt after just 15-30 minutes. I could go on with the details or simply leave you with the blessing -- on THIS particular day, for these particular cancer patients, there was hope and healing in sight. I didn't want that day to end and I left with a full heart and a dream that every cancer patient have access to free Reiki. And so here we are...
My wish is for every cancer patient to have hope and healing in sight. The THIS Day Fund is designed to provide comfort, hope, and healing via free Reiki treatments during the course of a cancer patient's illness. And, if the fund takes off the way I'm expecting, we'll be able to sponsor THIS Day community events throughout the city.

There's proof that Reiki is incredibly beneficial for cancer patients on so many levels -- physically, mentally emotionally and spiritually. My Story
I'm a Reiki Master in Boston who has been treating people with cancer as a volunteer and in private practice, through various stages of this horrible disease, for over 10 years. Like most of you, I've been touched by cancer. I've lost friends and family to this disease and most recently had a scare when my now 18 year old nephew was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Thankfully, today he is strong, incredibly passionate, and headed off to college in the Fall!
My journey with cancer patients began when I joined as one of the original members of the Dana Farber/Brigham & Women's Hospital Reiki Volunteer team. I worked on that team throughout the hospital in emergency care, trauma/burn, ICU and so on. And one day it was the oncology unit ... It was at this time that I fell in love with cancer patients. Over the years I've seen incredible indescribable stories of courage, strength and healing. I've worked with patients from diagnosis through death and believe it or not, even in death, there is healing.
I eventually left the hospital setting and treated the cancer population at The Hope Lodge (referenced above), and the rest is history. I have continued to treat cancer patients in private practice at my office in the city, at hospitals, and when patients can't travel, in their homes. I cannot express in words how this population of strong, courageous, inspirational everyday people have changed my life. They are an amazing testimony to the power of the human spirit!
The Fund in Action
Cancer patients who are unable to afford reiki treatments will simply send a request via the 7 On Centre website (www.7oncentre.com), to receive Free Reiki treatments at participating Wellness Centers in Boston and surrounding areas. They will then be matched with a practitioner in their area or one who is willing to travel to the hospital where the patient is receiving treatment.
Your donations will be used for Reiki treatments in the Boston cancer community and to sponsor THIS Day events throughout the city . These events will be free to the cancer community and their families and will include a Vision Board Workshop, Reiki Treatments, Paraffin Therapy, Seated Massge, Acupuncture, Nutritional Guidance and more.
Isn't Reiki Already Free in Hospitals?
Yes, many hospitals in and around the city and throughout the state and country for that matter, do offer free reiki to patients. Unfortunately, the options to patients are somewhat limited as they typically are 100% staffed by volunteers and the lenghth of treatment is often only 15+ minutes. I have been one of those volunteers and am quite familiar with the programs. It's fantastic that patients have an option to go through the hospital, but I wanted to offer another option with this fund.
I created this fund and service as an option after hearing and witnessing so many patients who wanted Reiki and couldn't receive it either because they are an outpatient or there just wasn't a practitoner available when they needed it. Also, so many cancer patients who are on outpatient treatment do not feel inspired to stay in the hospital any longer than they have to. The service provided through this fund allows patients to travel to a local wellness center or receive a home visit.
Designed to Grow!
By design, this initiative is meant to grow so that practitioners all across the city can join hands and partner with me to administer reiki treatments for cancer patients. My dream is to this expand from one practitoner, to a team of practitioners, to cities of practitioners and so on. Imagine a country where every cancer patient could recive Reiki treatments because they were gifted to them? Now that's love and it's where the real healing begins.
