YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS will go directly towards the hiring of additional staff to support expanded hours and services! We are especially looking forward to expanding our science & technology and teen programs.

What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is a concept where neurological differences are recognized and respected as a human variation. It can include those labeled with Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Dyscalculia, Autism, Tourette's Syndrome, and others.

For many, neurodiversity is viewed as a concept and social movement that advocates for viewing neurological differences as a variation of human wiring, rather than a disease. Neurodiversity activists reject the idea that conditions such as autism should be cured, advocating instead for celebrating different forms of communication and self-expression, and for promoting support systems that allow people to live as themselves.

Why was Raven House created?

The origins of Raven House began with Root Academy, a private school serving students with special needs (operated from 2016-2018). Root Academy was founded on the belief that all students had the power to unfold their potential as unique individuals.  As school leaders heard more stories from neurodiverse families and individuals about unmet needs and social isolation, we gradually expanded our vision out of a desire to serve a broader community.

The Executive Board of Honor in Legacy is made up of parents of neurodiverse children, and two of our board members are also neurodiverse. We understand on a fundamental level what it is like to live with a unique mind.

As a parent of an neurodiverse child, I have personally experienced the struggle to find supports and resources. It’s been a sometimes isolating experience. I’ve struggled to find a community where not only my child fits in, but our family fits in.  It has become my personal mission to build my own community. Raven House has given me this opportunity and I look forward to serving you.

Raven House is a place for the child who struggles in public school and needs private tutoring or instruction, or the teen who craves social opportunities with similar peers. It is a place for adults who are learning about their own neurodivergence, and it’s for families to have a safe place to be and be part of a community.

Thanks for supporting our community!
