The Market Theatre Company is a brand new performing arts venue and community hub with a goal of opening in downtown Anderson in 2016.

The Market will offer a full season of theatrical productions, plus concerts, workshops, classes, improv and comedy nights. There's something for everyone at The Market!

Our Story
Founders Dalton & Meghan Cole and Noah & Carlie Taylor have dreamt of opening a new theatre company for years. In April 2015, we learned of the Accelerate Anderson Downtown Challenge. We entered our idea for a then-untitled theatre company into the competition, and after several rounds of workshops, presentations, and challenges, we were selected as one of three winners. With the promise of a $12,000 award and a business services package, The Market Theatre Company was born.

Our Progress
Since winning the competition, we have worked to find a location for our new theatre, plan our first season of shows, and legally structure our organization. We also hosted a fundraiser Gala at Anderson University. This was a huge success, offering the community a glimpse of the quality entertainment that The Market will create!

We are working as quickly as possible to finalize the details of our lease and renovations on a downtown storefront. We will have exciting updates soon about the our venue and timeline!

At our Gala, we announced our exciting plans for our first season of shows. While our timeline is contingent on our venue and fundraising situation, we plan to bring the first show to the stage in early 2016! In addition to this mainstage season, The Market will also offer educational opportunities, comedy and improv shows, concerts, and community events! Details on these will be announced in the coming months.

How You Can Help
Opening a theatre has been a dream of each of ours for so many years. We have dreamed of producing excellent theatre, providing challenges and opportunities for local artists, and giving new life to our community through the arts. Thanks to the Accelerate Anderson Downtown Challenge, we are ecstatic to see this dream come to life! We understand that this is an enormous undertaking, and we won't be able to do this alone! We will need all kinds of help and support from our friends, family, and community to bring The Market to life.

One of our biggest immediate needs is financial assistance. If you are excited about The Market and want to help, please consider making a donation here on our GoFundMe page. We need approximately $25,000 to launch The Market. Renovations, legal fees, insurance, show licensing, and equipment are just a few of The Market's expenses. We have worked tirelessly to optimize our operating budget, and The Market is run entirely by volunteers. Every dollar donated is a huge help in bringing The Market to life!

As a brand new nonprofit organization, we are starting from the ground up, and every penny donated will be used to bring the dream of The Market to life.  All donors will be listed and thanked in our season programs. High level donors and corporate sponsors can become show presenters and be listed as the primary producer of one of our shows, with their logo on all of our marketing for the production! We are so proud to say that The Market Theatre Company just opened our first ever production, THE FANTASTICKS. What a great opening weekend! Thank you to everyone who saw the show and helped us celebrate our opening. The show will run for two more weekends! If you haven’t seen it yet, get your tickets now at Tickets are just $10!

As many of you know, The Market has found a permanent home at the Anderson Arts Center! However, this process has not been without its challenges. The Fantasticks is currently being performed in the Kay Gallery at the Arts Center. Our permanent venue is located on the lower level. We made great progress towards getting this space ready for our grand opening, building a set and a stage, installing equipment, and spending hours cleaning what used to a storage facility. Unfortunately, getting this space up to code proved to be harder than anyone ever imagined, and we've run into several speed bumps.

The biggest challenge that remains is our need for an HVAC system. Specifically, we need two 3-ton heat pump ductless mini splits, and a 300CFM ERV for fresh air return and exhaust. While we originally had plans in place to make this happen by the opening of The Fantasticks, we only recently learned that code would require larger units than we had initially anticipated.

We are so thankful to the Anderson Arts Center for giving The Fantasticks a home in the Kay Gallery. The show is beautiful in this space! Audiences have loved the intimate setting, creative storytelling and stunning music as performed by this brilliant cast from across the Upstate.  However, we still have a permanent venue that we cannot wait to share with our supporters!

While we have secured the majority of the funding for the HVAC system, we are in search of $3,000-4,000. Once we have met this goal, we will be able to install the HVAC system, go through our final inspections, and open our space to the community!
