I am passionate about helping people. Especially people who find themselves in the situation of being homeless. Through my volunteering with the Victoria Area Homeless Coalition, I have met many people who need help in non-traditional ways.
One of those ways is through a program called Safe Parking for those who have a vehicle and need a safe place to park and sleep. I became friends with a woman named Tessa who lived in the Safe Parking lot in my care. I learned how difficult it was to live day to day out of vehicles and tents. It led me to create The Humility Project.
The Humility Project is a labor of love. It is a hands on approach to befriending and helping those who are homeless and reaching out to get them the help they need to be successful, housed and back to the business of living...not just surviving.
The Humility Project is a homeless outreach that supplies gas cards, grocery/food cards, clothing, bus passes and other related supplies that keep people connected. The goal is to connect people to the services they need and encourage them on their journey.
Every dollar, resource and person who volunteers makes a difference in the lives of people who are ignored and isolated. April 1st marked one year since I began the Humility Project and the goal is to continue growing this full time for maximum impact.
I am currently helping 4 people myself and assisting several other people who are providing supplies and friendship to our friends finding themselves homeless.
I reach out to the larger community in the hopes of doing more to help make real differences in people's lives. I am not able to pay for everything myself anymore.
