My name is Kohmee Parrett and I've been on the ground organizing in black community in Chicago for about three years and the whole time I've been hearing about the legend of the white ally.
The white ally is ever present in conversations about funding effective solutions to the serious issues facing our communities...
But the black organizers I know that are actually putting in work on the ground are doing it for little or nothing. We do it because we believe our communities can thrive.
So I decided to issue a challenge to the legendary white ally.
In a country of over 350 million people, there must be 5,000 white allies willing to donate $20 towards black liberation.
These funds will be used to build and maintain black owned and operated social, political and economic infrastructure.
Help me prove that the white ally is not a myth.
These funds will be utilized to raise my salary from part time to full time employee and will be withdrawn directly to my personal bank account. All funds raised above my salary will be directly donated by me to Live Free Chicago and other organizations to hire and promote organizers in communities directly impacted by white supremacy and to fund violence prevention and economic stimulus initiatives focused on entrepreneurship, employment and job training.
