The Ethiopian Education Project

Ethiopia, a country that has seen it's fair share of troubles; you may have seen it in the news recently due to civil unrest in the country, but thankfully now, the state of emergency has calmed, and things are hopefully on the up.
We are a group of eight students and two teachers from St. Pauls College, Raheny, and we are travelling to Ethiopia in the Summer of 2017 as part of the Vincentian Lay Missionaries Youth Immersion Programme.

We plan to work in a school in Ambo, which is located in the West Shewa Zone of the Oromia Region, west of Addis Ababa, for three weeks, where we will be teaching children english, and some basic mathematics to students from the ages of 5 to18.
Education is one of the most important things in life, it gives people the nessesary skills and tools to be able navigate the world and live their lives. This is true everywhere, but in developing countries such as Ethiopia, where not everyone has access to education, and many do not have the luxury of finishing their education, it is even more important.
What we hope to achieve in our efforts is to make an impact, by teaching english to Ethiopians. English is nessesary for Ethiopians to gain access to university, which then by extension improves their lives, and in the long run will help develop their country.
The cost of this trip will be €12,500 if not more, which covers eveything from flights to vaccinations and accomodation in the local compound. There are eight Fifth Year students travelling, Jack, Carl, Ross, Sean, Michael, Oisin, Philip and Robert. In our opinion, this project will be more than worth it, as we are making a difference in people's lives, and having the experience of a lifetime.
The total funds are not expected to be raised through the use of this site, but we greatly appreciate any and all the love support and donations, and no donation is too small!
