Lennie, Nancy and Lennie's mom, Patti were lucky enough to escape the fire in Paradise, CA. on November 8, 2018. After waking his elderly neighbors, jump starting the car of his adjacent friends, then convincing his mother to shut off the T.V. news, gather up the cats and get in the car, he and Nancy were lucky enough to grab a few things from the house and flee to the city of Chico. His quick thinking and selfless actions in all likelihood saved his neighbors that terrible day.
The Deans made it through the maze of confused and frightened drivers on the skyway to his daughter Carrie's home in Chico. They were thankful to be alive. Many using the skyway that day were not so fortunate. The Deans were very lucky. They quickly settled in with Carrie, Raoul and their four children. Add 2 dogs, 3 cats, Lennie, Nancy and Patti and it made for a very crowded house. As the terrible news rolled in it was hard to remain optimistic. After several long days of wondering and hoping, they were informed that both homes had been completely destroyed.
Their attention now turned to the insurance company. They were told that fire insurance would cover a large portion of their losses. This was good news. Their spirits were lifted. Then while in Sacramento, their van still filled with their belongings was stolen from a parking lot. This was another terrible, disheartening blow. They are now struggling to remain positive and optimistic. Over the years Lennie and Nancy have worked tirelessly in the Paradise schools to benefit children and their families. They truly cared about their community and the people in it. Now these good people have fallen on hard times. They need a boost.
