The Beckey Hedglin Rebuilding Fund

On August 12th 2016, heavy rains began falling throughout South Louisiana. It has been called a “thousand year flood” with over 31 inches coming down in 48 hours. The rivers and bayous could not handle such vast amounts of water in such a short period of time. Flooding through many towns ensued. Beckey Hedglin has lived in one of these towns for over 40 years. She was in the final stages of remodeling her kitchen and had new appliances still in boxes and ready to be installed when the water rose. She got 3 feet of water in her home within minutes and had to evacuate very quickly. She lost everything. Worst of all, she had no flood insurance because her home was not in a designated flood zone. Friends and coworkers helped to remove all her belongings out to the curb and to gut her home down to studs below the flood line.
Beckey has been taken in by generous friends while she repairs the damage to her home. It is a work in progress and she most likely won’t be back in her home until after the new year. Beckey has been a nurse over 40 years and had just recently retired. Her life has been one of service to others. Can we come together to be of service to her? Your generosity would be most appreciated.
