THANKSBEING for Standing Rock

Donation protected
We are a group of people who are responding to a call made by the Water Protectors for young warriors to join in prayer and to be of service at Standing Rock. We are raising money to join a caravan that is heading that way in November.

Thanksgiving is a time for many Americans to be with family and eat delicious home cooked food and over-indulge by a warm fireplace. For American Indians, however, this is often a time of mourning. This is yet another holiday that honors an ugly history, one of attempted genocide and injustice. This injustice continues to this day and we are watching in horror, with broken hearts and a deep eagerness to serve as things unfold at Standing Rock. Our Earth is being raped and our water poisoned. What is life without water? No life can survive without water. The Lakota believe that every action will effect the next seven generations. This gathering of indigenous people from hundreds of tribes and their brothers and sisters from all backgrounds and walks of life are praying and joining together in protest of the effect of this pipeline on the next seven generations. We are going to pray with and stand in solidarity with the water protectors for our Mother Earth, our children, our grandchildren and their grandchildren. We are all one family.

Standing Rock is the defining symbol of our age. Fueled by ignorance, “the Beast with no name” is controlling all of us with it’s bottomless belly of greed, money, lies, sugar, and gas.

If you don’t know what is going on, Energy Transfer partners, (now as we find out has funded Trump’s campaign) is building a pipeline across sacred Native American Land. The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAP) would transport 400,000 barrels of oil a day across the northern states to Iowa, crossing rivers in 200 places. It is a threat to the sacred land, to everyone’s drinking water, and the environment in the core of our country. What’s worse is that we don’t even need this energy presently. Most of the oil and gas extracted from the land in North Dakota and transported by the DAP will be sold in Asian markets to fuel economies in India and China. Furthermore, if this money were invested in sustainable energy, we would be depending less on oil and the dangerous practices that are in place to extract it.

Over 200 Tribes have gathered in PEACEFUL & PRAYERFUL PROTECTION for our water making this the largest and most diverse Native gathering in history. These women, men, children, and families, are being met with hostility and aggression - militarized police with military force and fierce dogs. Our Relatives need more people to stand with them. They need our help.

We are joining a caravan of people who are picking up a big tent and heaters along the way that will serve as a winter shelter for many of the people at Standing Rock. There is a call for sleeping bags, warm clothes, and heaters. We will also be bringing firewood, which they need to survive the winter. We are acting as a “Mobile Healing Unit,” taking a group of energy workers/therapists/healers to make a healers tent. We will be offering sessions while we are there and whatever else we can do to help. We are also bringing our children with us, so that they can see how important this is. This water is our life’s blood.

The money that we are raising will fund travel expenses from Upstate NY to Cannon Ball, North Dakota. We need a van, RV, or a school bus, to transport people, and provide food and lodging along the way and back. We need some bus drivers. Once we are there, we will stay in Tipi's and tents provided by the people living there. We are collecting money for firewood, sleeping bags, and warm clothes, and will bring any other things that are needed from the Amazon Shopping List.

We are are now coordinating efforts with Dolores Mannix and Tammy Gallo, who will be traveling to Oceti Sakowin camp, Fire Council traditional Sioux camp.  They will be bringing supplies and firewood, bearing witness, offering services, and standing in solidarity with  our water protectors.

Any money left over from these funds will go directly to them.

Part of what is so disturbing about this for us, is that this was their land, that our government originally stole from them. Then we “gave” it back to them signing specific treaties, that are now being broken and completely overlooked. This is not only the raping of the land, but of the native people and their rights. Please stand with us. Donate whatever you can. Come with us!! Chop firewood! Even if you just donate $20, it will help.

This is no time for apathy. We cannot survive without water. Human greed and ignorance is hitting us where it hurts. Why are we on this path of self-destruction? We can no longer live this way. Water is life.

Join the peaceful and necessary gathering being carried out by thousands of conscious humans across the world.  The Sioux Nation has spurred the resistance to protect not only the land, but also the lives of all that will be affected by the construction of the pipeline. This is a call to action in any capacity. Below are links to information, petitions, and opportunities to support the people of Standing Rock.
