“Real generosity towards the future, lies in giving all to the present”
                                                            -Albert Camus.

As a little girl I always looked at the world through a yellow lense. A colour that made even the unknown and risks seem a little more welcoming to explore. I felt as if yellow wasn't only a colour that could be used on thoughts or big tests, but it could also colour people. See, in my life I have filled it with bright yellow personalities. These yellow hearts have helped me through everyday life and the way it's seen through my eyes. I believe we can brighten the lives of people and the world by even the smallest of actions. Even the smallest amount of yellow will change someone's attitude and views on everyday life.

My name is Olivia Walker and I'm determined to paint as much yellow over the world as possible.  I’m a proud grade 10 student of Digby Regional High School and I will be the attending the We service trip to Kenya, 2019.  I had first heard about Me to We midway through my grade 7 year. The positivity was contagious and seeing the numbers of lives the organisation has reached out to was breathtaking. I had to become a part of this We movement and make those numbers even greater. I have been a  part of the committee since grade 8 and I have accomplished so much more than I could of imagined. I have helped purchase over 50 goats, volunteered for our amazing school fundraisers such as Stuff a Bus, Hungry for Education, and attended 2 Atlantic We Days. Every Me to We activity I do leads me to wanting more hands on experiences.

My biggest excitement about attending this trip would be to meet the people of Kenya (especially the children) and listening to their stories. I currently work with youth on all sides of the spectrum and of all ages, from babies to young teens and have listened to their beliefs, dreams, and thoughts. I feel as if I’d benefit from this trip because I plan to work with youth for the rest of my life. I also aspire to learn from the culture of Kenya. I want to know their stories. I want to walk in their shoes.

I feel as if they have so many important lessons to teach us and I’m ready to fly to Kenya to learn. I feel honored to be part of a team that will help give the people of Kenya education, clean water and a smile on their face.

Being selected for this amazing opportunity, my fundraising ideas would include: collecting recyclable bottles from the streets, friends and family, bagging groceries at Sobeys, Superstore, or  Walmart, bake sales, gift card baskets, car washes, and possibly hosting a bingo at the Digby Fire Hall. I would always work my hardest on planning fundraisers and would volunteer to organise events with different businesses. I had experience fundraising for travel in 2017 for a student leadership conference in Toronto and will be more then willing to do so again.

Given the opportunity to be  selected to represent my school, I will always treasure my experiences there, and make sure to share them with others, encouraging them to join the movement. I plan to speak highly of our school and always have a bright positive attitude making everyone feel happy and comfortable. I promise to take more than pictures home from this trip but also lifelong lessons I wouldn't learn without this We trip.

Thank you always,

Olivia Walker.
