TBRI Foster Care Training

Dear Family & Friends,
As many of you know, Nick and I started a new journey in parenting this past year. We added child number three through foster care. Through this journey, and God’s timing, I (Jenn) have been presented with an amazing opportunity to further my training as a foster parent (and professional) by attending a training in Dallas, TX at Texas Christian University in October 2015. I have an amazing group of friends who came together to help support me in going and to help care for the children while I attend the five day training. We are asking family and friends for additional financial and prayer support, to help offset the costs of the training.
The training is called Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and many of the basic concepts are written in a book called, The Connected Child, by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross. Both will be at the training in October, teaching some of the sessions. My hope is that through the training we will continue to be equipped for our foster parent journey; to bring healing and hope to children and their birth families. Our additional hope is that we can support other foster and adoptive families in their parenting journey. The parenting journey is often difficult, but can have even more challenges when working with children from “hard places.” We desire to see families thrive, not just survive. We believe TBRI is an amazing, holistic model that’s interventions address sensory issues, nutrition, attachment issues, and provide discipleship, not just discipline. TBRI also asks that the parent look inward at their own histories, to allow healing to occur; believing that you cannot help heal a child, until you have walked through healing yourself.
Asking for assistance is incredibly humbling for us, but we believe that children and foster families are important and we desire to see families thrive. The training cost is $3500 plus additional meal, lodging, and travel expenses. $2500 has currently been raised, and we are looking for support for the remaining $1500 ($500 for travel and lodging). We will be covering the food expenses.
Please pray about whether God would have you give a financial contribution to have me attend this training. If you are not called to give financially, would you please consider praying for our family. Pray for Nick as he will be working from home and caring for the children with the support of an amazing group of friends in San Antonio, TX. Pray for me as I leave the children, and for my mind and heart to absorb and share what I learn according to the Lord’s will.
