Alex and I met at our last duty station in Oklahoma. We began dating in early 2010, shortly after my son turned two.  Connor and I moved back to Illinois in Fall 2010 so that I could attend college full time. Several months after our move, Alex decided to follow suit and move near us. Two years later we became a happy blended family.

We tried to start a family right away, but did not have any luck. My VA doctor in St. Louis told us that it was normal for it to take two years or even longer to conceive. She didn't take my concerns very seriously.

Alex, Connor, and I moved to Utah in May 2013 to live near his family. My doctor at the VA happened to be a Reproductive Endocrinologist for University of Utah so my first appointment with her went very well. She expressed an interest in finding out why we had not conceived.

I began infertility treatments in the Fall. I used two different medications, an injectible, and underwent four rounds of IUI (Intra Uterine Insemination). My doctor thought for sure the procedures would work for us.

After those procedures failed, the U of U performed a test to check out the functionality of Alex's sperm. That test gave us the news that we dreaded to hear:  we were going to need IVF. Not just regular IVF, but Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).  This is where they take the sperm and manually fertilize the egg.

We met with the Reproductive Center at U of U to discuss the procedure and costs in January 2014. Our sticker shock put the quest for a baby on hold. We hoped that maybe we would luck out while we saved up. So far, that hasn't happened, and honestly, the odds are pretty slim that I would get pregnant.

I've come to accept that it will take medical intervention to make our baby dreams come true. Because you must have the funding available before the procedure, more extensive fundraising is required of us. The estimated cost of the ICSI IVF procedure will be $15000. It is even higher if we want to select the guaranteed birth option (where we would try several IVF cycles to get a live birth).

If you are unable to donate financially, we understand. We hope that instead you can pray for us and provide us emotional support during this time. It has been quite the emotional roller coaster the last year, so all the hugs and kind words will be helpful to get us through the next course of treatment.

19 days of injections down.... 7 more to go!! Believe me, I'm counting the days of no more needles. There is just something about having to stick yourself multiple times that doesn't sit well with me. Luckily I have a great sister in law who is a pro. She's made the injections so much more tolerable. (So, THANKS Carli!)

Alex started his meds on Monday and has been tolerating them okay too. We'll both be glad to get through the next week.

Monday I have my next ultrasound. That will determine when I get the HCG injection and the date of the egg retrieval. That will probably be on March 4th or 5th. Then the following week we will have the embryo transfer!! We can hardly wait!

We wanted to send another quick note of thank you to everyone who has donated to us for the IVF procedure. A lot has changed for us in the last month. Divine intervention, perhaps. The job Alex has accepted begins on Feb 17th. It is a significant pay raise over his current position. Because of the location of this job, it is looking like we will be relocating in a short time as well.

Your donations are the reason that IVF is now within our grasp, and we can't extend enough thank-yous to express our gratitude.

With the sale of our current home and the new job, we feel it is best to treat the donations as a short term loan. In the next few months, we feel that we will be financially secure enough to begin paying back the people who have helped us.

We are so grateful for everyone's willingness to help us during our time of need, both emotionally and financially. We love you all!

In the last few days, $1450 in donations has come in from people we have never met. I do not even know how to put into words how incredible this is to me. Astounded. Humbling. Encouraging. Those are a few words that come to mind. We have been in absolute awe.

Thank you all so much for your generosity. These donations have brought us so much closer to our goal. I hope that some time in the next year, we will be in the position to be able to pay this forward to another family undergoing IVF or pursuing adoption.

Thank you again and God Bless!

Well, we got some news today regarding the cost. We were placed into the second tier for pricing. With ICSI, the guaranteed birth option (one fresh and two frozen cycles) will cost $18,500. That's about $2500 more than I was anticipating. We have some serious thinking to do now.

Good luck with your endeavor. I love kids and wanted a big family. When I was pregnant with Hailey I had preeclampsia which caused my brain to swell and I lost my vision. Then I found out I only had half a uterus so I was unable to have more children. I was devastated and depressed. I wanted to adopt but didn't have the money. I hope you get the funding and everything goes well. I wish you guys the best. Sorry I don't have more to donate.

I've been slacking adding updates.... My best guess is that around $200 came from sales, and about $2000 is from Alex selling his Survivehive.com website. More info from donations and sales is available at AuntieEmsCrafts.com.
